About Acid-Wrapped Rods
Primary Benefits of Acid-Wrapped Rods
- Eliminates Torque and Twist: In a traditional casting rod, the line pulls down against guides on top of the blank, creating a natural tendency for the rod to want to flip over in your hands. Spiral wrapping places the guides on the bottom, stabilizing the rod and preventing it from twisting under heavy loads
- Reduced Fatigue: By removing the need to constantly fight the rod's tendency to roll, anglers experience significantly less wrist and hand fatigue during long fights with large fish.
- Prevents "Tip Wrap": Since the final guides and tip face downward, loose line is far less likely to tangle around the rod tip, a common issue during vertical jigging.
- Improves Blank Longevity: By removing torsional stress, the rod blank is less likely to fail under high-stress loads, such as hook sets or battling large saltwater species.
- Improved Blank Performance: With the line staying under the blank, the rod can bend more naturally without the line rubbing against the blank. This allows the rod to utilize its full power and recovery speed.
Common Applications
- Deep Jigging: Highly popular for slow-pitch and vertical jigging, where heavy loads and constant movement increase the risk of line tangles and wrist fatigue.
- Big Game Fishing: Used for species like tuna, marlin, and halibut where the extreme pull of the fish would otherwise cause a standard rod to twist violently.
- Bottom Fishing: Beneficial for heavy-duty bottom bouncing or trolling where the rod is under constant pressure from heavy lures or weights.
- Saltwater Fishing: Highly beneficial for fighting powerful species like tuna, amberjack, and grouper that put immense strain on the rod.
- Vertical Jigging: Popular for techniques like slow-pitch jigging, where rod stability and reduced fatigue are critical.
- Trolling and Bottom Fishing: Used in heavy-duty setups where rods stay under constant load for long periods.
Cons of Acid/Spiral Wrapped Rods
- Looks Different: Some anglers might be bothered by the non-traditional placement of the guides.
- Complex Build: They require more time, precision, and skill to build correctly, increasing cost and limiting availability.
- Not Always Stronger: Though they reduce torque and wrist fatigue to help battle powerful fish, they don't inherently make a rod stronger than a well-built conventional rod.
Didn't think I actually needed this rod until I fished it. I own 3 leviathans and they all havnt disappointed. This has to be my favorite rod I’ve put my hands on. It can do literally a little bit of everything. This rod is never left behind on my trips, it is a true power house for its size and weight. If they’re in stock and your on the fence, I totally recommend!!!
Absolutely perfect! Going to be my new favorite.
What a beautifully crafted rod, I'm speechless.
This rod is a do it all stick. Paired with a 200 size reel, it’s the perfect combo to throw anything from a k9 to a failsafe. Another gap it fills for me is small to medium softies. Great for skipping citizens and flags.
Definitely premium rod. Using it to throw 1 to 3 oz soft baits right now. Love the look and feel. Can’t wait till frog season next year to. Will probably throw heavy jigs on it as well.
The Codd rod: Nice fast tip with a parabolic bend. The carbon handle is great and feels good in the hand, but it’s very light so the rod is a bit tip heavy. I waited a while for the rod to get back in stock and I’m glad I got one!!
I own multiple rods from leviathan this by far is my favorite. This rod can do alot of things extremely well and i love that carbon fiber handle.
I received this rod today and it was exceptionally packaged. The Codd Rod is beautiful and may be the nicest piece of outdoor equipment Ive ever held, and I have quite the appetite for premium gear. I paired it up with an Antares DC MD and gonna sling the **** out of some swims and glides. To my wife's chagrin, I will be purchasing many more of these rods.
Rod came packaged the very best in a pvc tube and was wrapped perfectly on the inside with bubble wrap. The rod itself is a beautiful work of art and light as a feather and made in the USA of Texas
